The Lockheed L-1011 Tristar was a wide body airliner that entered service after the 747. Capable to hold up to 400 passengers and a range of over 7,000 Km it went head to head to compete with the 747. Throughout it's production the L-1011 was slowed down due to it's engine supplier Rolls Royce going through financial problems. In the end the world received an aircraft with new advanced auto pilot and received the very first zero-visibility-weather landing authorization.
